Out of Time, Out of Place 2021
in-situ installation; video 14' with 5D sound, pool of used motoroil, 75 inch LCD, live audio intervention
Out of time, Out of Place is an in-situ installation made during my year-long residency as “House–Sound–Artist” at Fred&Ferry. Inside an old skylight, a black pool reflects the image of a 75-inch tv screen floating above it. A 5D soundtrack accompanies the video installation while the ambient sound of visitors and music is echoed back into the room.
Entering the darkened attic, blue light shining from the old light corridor instantly draws your attention. As you lean over the edge and look around, you are captured by a reflection of landscapes in what appears to be a deep dark well. Landmarks, mountain ranges, sea- and cityscapes overlap and glide by. In the meantime, the soundtrack spins around behind you. First, you hear how a key unlocks a heavy portal. Stepping inside, door after door gets opened with the same heavy bunch of keys. Behind every door, a new acoustic environment greets us, until we eventually reach the attic through the lift. A soft pulsing tone introduces a new musical landscape with strings and swelling synths, through which a warm voice guides us. Walking further to the opposite side of the light corridor, an echo of footsteps and music, enriched with an ice-like reverb, meet you ears.
